I-15 EIS; Farmington to SLC

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is conducting an environmental impact study (EIS) along the I-15 corridor between Farmington and Salt Lake City. The project area includes approximately 17 miles of the I-15 from the Park Lane interchange (milepost 325) in Farmington to the 400 South interchange (milepost 308) in Salt Lake City. The project plans to widen the freeway to five lanes in each direction.

The project also includes the following additional items:

-        an interchange at 2100 North in Salt Lake City,

-        an improved interchange for I-15, I-215 and U.S. 89 in North Salt Lake,

-        improvements to cross streets,

-        a braided ramp between 400 North and 500 South in Bountiful,

-        dedicated paths and crossings for cyclists and walkers at each interchange, and

-        a new multi-use path at U.S. 89 to connect existing pathways to downtown.

UDOT hired IC&E to work with Horrocks, and HDR to develop a conceptual cost estimate, which was later sent to the legislature to be the budget for the project. Abdi Fatemi served as the lead estimator and helped UDOT navigate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) costs for the duration of the project, since a minimum of two lanes are required to stay open in each direction along the freeway.
