Project Neon
Project Neon was the largest public works project in Nevada’s history! It was a $650 M system to system interchange with HOV lane direct connections between I-15 and US 95. NDOT recognized the previous interchange would not provide the needed capacity with growth projected to double by 2035. Construction started in 2016 and wrapped up in late 2020. The project included widening 3.7 Miles of Interstate 15 between Sahara Avenue and the “Spaghetti Bowl” Interchange. The project highlights included 36 new bridge structures, an HOV flyover connection between I-15 and US-95, conversion of express lanes on I-15 to HOV lanes, a new HOV interchange “Neon Gateway”, reconstruction of the Charleston Boulevard Interchange, realignment of MLK Blvd with a flyover at Charleston Boulevard, and it extended Grand Central Parkway to Industrial Road. Innovative Contracting and Engineering provided project controls on Project Neon. Our responsibilities included reviewing monthly schedule updates, providing summary reports, providing time impact analyses, critiquing the Contractor’s recovery schedule, reviewing Contractor pay applications, verifying earned value, and we lead the D-B team in documenting the project records.
