SR-28 FLAP; Nevada DOT

Innovative Contracting and Engineering provided ICE services for this project. The project installed safety improvements along SR-28, and constructed 3-miles of 12-wide shared use path/trail. Due to the steep terrain, the trail project included retaining walls along most of the corridor, and multiple bridges. Our team provided production based cost estimating, construction scheduling, constructability reviews, and participation in risk management workshops. The contractor priced and scheduled the construction by building the trail using cranes set on SR-28. This approach required 3-seasons to build the trail, increased disruption to the traffic on SR-28, and added cost. ICE recommended building the trail, walls and bridges from cranes set on barges in Lake Tahoe. This approach cut the schedule down to two seasons, and provided cost savings.
